We’re at the midway point in the blog series, YOU: The Doctrine of Human Beings, but let’s recap what we’ve talked about so far…
In yesterday’s post, we talked about the first practical implication of the Imago Dei or the image of God:
Every human being ever conceived has immeasurable WORTH and VALUE. Treat them like it!
We also went through the four “Rubber Meets the Road” Image of God issues.
1) Because people are made in the image of God, we VALUE the “SANCTITY OF LIFE.”
Every life is valuable. Every life matters. Every life should be protected.
2) Because people are made in the image of God, we PROTECT the VULNERABLE.
We work to protect, love and serve those who’ve been victimized.
3) Because people are made in the image of God, we PURSUE DIVERSITY.
Any form of racism, elitism, discrimination, prejudice or oppression is not simply a social issue, it’s a sin issue.
4) Because people are made in the image of God, we HONOR UP, DOWN and ALL AROUND.
We believe that every person should be treated with honor.
Now, in today’s post, I’ll introduce the second implication…
PRACTICAL IMPLICATION OF THE IMAGO DEI – #2
Every human being has INHERENT RESPONSIBILITY.
The next few verses in Genesis 1:26-28 contain what could be called our first job description.
26 Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule [reign – NLT; have dominion – ESV] over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.” — Genesis 1:26 NIV
27 So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them.
28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.” —Genesis 1:27-28 NIV
In Part 4 and Part 5, I’ll go over our “job description.” Until then, you can watch the YOU: The Doctrine of Human Beings message I preached at A2 Church recently.
